Biography


Geert Mul( b.1965) studied at the Academy of the Arts at Arnhem from 1985 until 1990 where he eventually specialized in computer animation.

1990- 1999

From 1990 till 1993 he travelled various countries such as Mexico and the U.S.A and lived in Tokyo Japan. In the mid- 90’s, Mul started to create live video screenings for Rotterdam techno club ‘The Future’ and all the mayor pop festivals in Holland, which made him an international VJ pioneer. At the same time Mul developed generative / interactive audiovisual installations and performances in a variety of artistic settings: musea, theatre and concert halls. Between 1995 and 2000 Mul  worked as an Art director for Dance group Kriztina de Chatel, designed visuals for Diesel fashion in Italy, Ro Theatre with theatre director Guy Cassiers, Eric Sleichim )Blindman saxophone quartet), techno pioneer Speedy J.

2000- 2011

From 2000 on Mul exhibited site-specific installations and art-works in Holland (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam), U.S.A. (Museum of contemporary Art Chicago), Italy (Biennale for emerging Artists Torino), Spain (Sonar, Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, IVAM), France (Catier Foundation Paris) India (National Gallery of Modern Art), Japan (Museum of Modern Art Kyoto), China (3rtd Triennale-Chengdu) and South Africa (Soweto, Grahamstown)


Between 2003 and 2011 Mul produced twelve large scale commissioned interactive installations in public space among which schools, a city hall, a theatre and a hospital.


Geert Mul is represented by gallery RONMANDOS Amsterdam, by the V2_AGENCY Rotterdam, Co-founder and creative board member Baltan Media Laboratories Eindhoven, Creative board member Showroom MAMA Rotterdam, Teacher at Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, DOGTIME, Interactive Design.


In 2010 Geert Mul won the largest private art award in Holland: the Witteveen+Bos Art & Technology Award.
